iGeneration attended the launch of 'Digital Circle' this week, an initiative to pull together all stakeholders and suppliers of digital content in Northern Ireland.

This could be and should be the new dawn for emerging technologies coming out of the province. It is a unique opportunity to become collaborative, innovative and proactive (3 often-times overused words!).

Will it work? Cynics abound with any new initiative. But what is striking, is the number of diverse ventures concentrated in such a small market, in global terms. Very small businesses doing some great things with technology that should be reaching far beyond the local markets.

What is the most encouraging sign that the sector is 'on to something' is that when looking around the room, you see the majority of attendees are early to mid-thirties in age. There is a layer of entrepreneurs in the technology sector in Northern Ireland that has grown-up soaked in internet technology from social and business perspectives. These are the people who can change things quickly.

If this group pulls together, cuts away the time-honoured sideswipes and insular attitudes, then just maybe Digital Circle is the start of great things here.

Time will tell.

You can find out more about Digital Circle here.

You can download podcasts from this event and other interviews from the sector.
